it longs proves my theory that the only reason we really give a shit about these movies is the actors spinning straw into gold (and john williams)
The funniest thing about the additions to this post (I’m not going to assume the intent of OP) is that… not to mince words… they’re both a crock of shit. Oscar Isaac is a fantastic actor, thoughtful about his characters and their emotions, but every single shot in this gifset is specifically framed to give Poe a moment to explore and feel his grief. In every shot, the camera has Poe always in a position where your eye is immediately drawn to him and what he is going through, how he as a character is developing from beginning to end.
This means alot in a film that has a bunch of moving parts, with a requirement to balance character work with pew pewaction.
Y’all gotta learn the difference between an actor having fun in the back of shot like Orlando Bloom in LOTR and an actor being given the chance by the director and cinematographer to explore his character’s arc in a structured, meaningful way
It’s almost like the film was directed, shot, and edited in a very specific way to give him these moments of grief in a succinct way without dialogue or over explaining and had an actor who was up to the challenge.
