Yep, Portuguese knitting is a real thing.

There might be something better to divert ADHD than knitting but I don’t know what: it invites focus; it’s calm but moving not simply sitting still; it’s physical without being noisy or disruptive, so ya can be in a non-problematic state knitting while around other people.

And you could get something useful/pretty as a result.
