I really wanted to share this post. I started fine arts in 2015, entering university not quite sure of what I had chosen. In Spain, artists are not very respected, and it is very normal for people to comment that you are wasting your time and money since you will not be able to make a living from your art and that you will end up working on anything other than that.
During the first 2 years of the degree I was angry and desperate since compared to my classmates, my work was very mediocre and that, obviously, nobody would hire me having so much competition with a level much higher than mine. I was not good at sculpture and my paintings did not stand out at all.
However in my third year of the degree I discovered my passion for digital art and with my savings, I ended up buying my first graphic tablet and began to practice in my spare time. I loved reading so I entertained myself designing characters. These illustrations are from 2018, as you can see, they are far from good or impressive, but I loved them and, for the first time, I was passionate about what I did. The only thing I wanted was to learn even more.
When some of you ask me how you can improve, I always answer the same thing. Patience and a lot of effort and dedication in what you do. Practice every day that you can and with time, improvement comes. There is no secret, there is no magic brush, it is not talent, it is dedication and a lot of practice. My 2020 illustrations are light-years away from 2 years ago and I’m sure that in 2022, if I redid them, they would be even better, and the only thing I’ve done in this time is illustrate and practice whenever I could. Do not compare yourself with other artists, just follow your path and you will find your style and passion. I started my Instagram account 2 years ago and I already have 8000 followers on Instagram, which I still cannot believe sometimes and with your messages of support and affection you give me the strength to continue fighting in search of my life as an artist, so I can show people that art is important, that has to be valued and that you can make a living with your creations.
