Vulnerability’s Power

Our shadow selves can emerge through the raw, tender burning of an achy heart, or take the shake of a decision gone wrong, or be the face behind a lover that is an enemy.

Our shadow selves are seeking us while we are taught to discard or run from them. The chase can be ferocious, life threatening, even death seeking each time we deny and avoid a safe, present interaction with what we don’t understand.

Like the remote control world we live and love in, we are quick to switch the channel or turn it off…the subtly unbearable, triggers that resound. We are caught up in ex-pectation at a moment when ex-ploration needs its time.

A stirring of the heart’s pot is attempting so that what’s cooking won’t burn or stick to the bottom while the fear of who will emerge is thickening. The fearful mind foolishly longing for resolution and certainty, while the heart is yearning to move towards exhilaration.

But we stop it. The natural process gets turned down, turned off each time…interfering.

Courage comes when we learn to listen with our hearts rather than hear with our eyes or mind. The practice of heart listening is scarce and missing from the daily teachings of living in a race full society.

Vulnerability is the prelude of courage, that soft tap or whisper from your heart, nudging you to turn inward and mute the outward; it is an invitation to lower the curtains, remove the shades that block the spectacular colors you are fighting with yourself not to experience.

No need to cover your heart. Flame with its colors!
