“Once again, it’s the anniversary of the Battle of Hogwarts so, as promised, I shall apologise for a death. This year: Remus Lupin.” - J.K Rowling on the anniversary of the Battle of Hogwarts
Lupin’s death hit me hard. He’d had an immensely tragic thing happen to him and he had grown to believe he wasn’t capable of living a human life and having friends or relationships. And then he was accepted by the Marauders and they didn’t scorn him for his “furry little problem.” He had friends who cared for him, who’d lay down their life for him, and then in an instance, two were killed and the other is sent to Azkaban for being responsible. Years later, he regains who he used to be and finds the thread of happiness; he has friends and has created his own little family, only for it to be ripped away.
Rowling has said that she needed Lupin to die to show the devastating impact of war and how it leaves behind orphans, so Teddy is the echo of Harry.
But the image of Remus, Sirius, James and Lily reunited in the forest with Harry offered a bit of comfort.
