- NOCNICA -
(eng. Nocnitsa) in Slavic mythology a nightmare spirit often referred to as a woman, known to sit on one’s chest during sleep, drawing “life energy”. Because of this, many refer to Nocnitsa as a type of vampire. According to some folklore, night hags visit when one sleeps on one’s back, with the hands on the chest (a position allegedly called “sleeping with the dead”). According to some folklore, night hags are made of shadow. She might also have a horrible screeching voice and allegedly also smell of the moss and dirt from her forest of origin.
They were also often blamed for deaths of people who died in their sleep, usually children. Here’s my little contribution into Simblrween thingie. We don’t celebrate Halloween in Poland but we have a very interesting mythology so I thought I’ll teach you guys a little about it! There are maaany more demons like that so if you like my sim version of Nocnica, maybe I could make more? I think it’s an interesting idea.
Also! The Witcher series (books and games) are an amazing source of Slavic Mythology if you’re interested!
