A YEAR IN COSPLAY PHOTOGRAPHY: 2014 EDITION
As 2014 comes to a close, I wanted to reflect on what a year it’s been. Regardless of circumstances, I still took a ton of photos, learned a lot, lost quite a bit, and picked myself back up again. I wanted to feature these 10 photos to summarize my year, because I feel like they really stand as an example of the style I’m beginning to build for myself.
February of 2015 will mark 3 years cosplay photography. For me, this has never been just about taking a decent photograph or documenting something. In my work I’ve always tried to tell a story, whether that was through recreation of a scene or something on the spot that pays homage to what the series is about and the characters in the photo. I’m most proud of it when it begins to take on somewhat of a cinematic quality, which is how I feel about the 10 photos here.
The next step for me? I’m not entirely sure. Part of me wants to invest in better equipment, and teach myself more about what I already have at my disposal. Part of me, after Katsucon, wants to take a step back, re-evaluate how I feel about doing photo shoots and what it means to me/what it’s supposed to feel for me. There’s a lot of wishy washy thoughts going on right now, but I promise to keep all of you updated as I move forward.
Thanks so much for continuing to follow me on this wild ride. Here’s to 2015!
