So tell me, do y’all think the war affected him a little bit?
Sebastian Stan gets a lot of praise for his acting in Captain America: the Winter Soldier - well deserved praise, to be sure. But I never see people praising his acting in Captain America: the First Avenger.
Just take a look at the gifs above. Bucky is one before the war and another after it. He is still Bucky Barnes, but a changed Bucky Barnes. And this is so not only because of what Zola did to him. As @phdna put it, the war affected him.
So, please, let’s also talk about Sebastian Stan’s excellent acting skills is Captain America: the First Avenger.
Well said, @apensivelady!
In the like, 10 minutes of screentime Seb got in CATFA, he managed to portray Steve’s childhood friend, a highly traumatized man, and a sniper who copes with the war the best way he can. He made it seem like Bucky has a character arc as complex and as intense as Steve’s even though he’s not in the movie for long – what Seb did was imply Bucky’s side of the story wasn’t shown but certainly happened.
Not to mention how his acting feels like the Bucky of the comics. In the movies, of course, Bucky is much older, but it feels like CATFA!Bucky is who 616!Bucky would grow up to be, personality-wise, but with the changes the 616!canon deviance would unavoidably bring about.
So yes. Seb was great in CATFA as well as CATWS!
