For some reason Caleb and Jester being arm in arm with their past selves is giving me all sorts of emotions for two different reasons.

Future and past Jester go arm in arm. They are together. It’s like future Jester is showing her past the way, showing her all the cool adventures she’s going to go on, listening to her dreams with fondness and happiness. She’s the only one actually looking AT her past self and not away from her.

Caleb is the exact opposite. Where Jester is holding her past self by the arm, Caleb’s arm is linked with his past self like he’s about to drag this man forward if it kills him. Past Caleb is bust staring into the flame, almost engulfed by it. Future Caleb is wielding that very same flame, symbol of his past, in one hand, and a more of possibility, symbol of the future, in the other. Caleb will always carry that broken part of him, but he WILL carry it. He will drag it forward until this broken man can look up from the fire in his hands and see that there is still a world for him.

Also speaking of positioning that gives me Emotions TM, Nott and past Beau are the only ones looking at their future selves, also for very different reasons.

Past Beau is looking at her future self because her future self is what she was always hoping to become. Someone who made a damn difference. Someone who is important. Future Beau is the goal past Beau needed and worked to be.

Compare and contrast that to Nott, who is looking towards Veth as past AND future. A past she lost to the water streaming under her. A future she longs for and fights for. She wants to go back to being Veth, but she got better than she ever thought.

OP I don’t know how much of this was on purpose and how much was me reading into things, and sorry for going off on your post, but HOLY SHIT you’re a very skilled artist and you made me feel many many emotions.

Okay I honestly love the analysis of this and it does make so much sense! - I really do love when you guys look into things like this and how they read to your eyes!

I’m 99% sure that most of it was unintentional when I was drawing them in terms of how past vs present were interacting with each other (aka I didn’t want them all looking too similar by being back to back, like Caduceus who I started with). Jester though for sure I wanted past and present to be very friendly cause of course they would!  

I think Caleb’s linking arms thought process went: ‘his present self covers too much of the past if his arm is overlapping, let me just link them to keep it visually interesting’ lol. But his flames and how each used them was very intentional, and the same with aspects of dunamancy on the present side for Essek’s influence and the idea is very similar on Essek’s piece
