In these last few months, I have been sending out my CV and trying to find a job because I will be graduating really soon and I need to help my parents, but the only answers that I have gotten back only offered me R$10 to R$20 per hour (teaching English or Brazilian Portuguese), so basically, 2 to 4 dollars but mostly my CVs weren’t looked when I said I have autism or only a little bit of experience with internships.
But then I found this NGO that had this program called “Global Teachers” where you can teach English (and other stuff too) in another country. I applied and got accepted to a very nice international school in India (Erode, Chennai), where I will be teaching English to kids aged 8 to 11.
The job starts June 1st and I do have some costs to cover by myself before getting there (the school offers accommodation inside their campus and 3 meals per day when I’m there).
My godmother has gifted me a little bit of money to help, as a graduation and early birthday gift, but even so, there is still a bit to cover beforehand (visa tax, plane tickets, travel/health insurance, first month money)
Luckily, India doesn’t have a high living cost but truly, the best thing is that I will not need any help (money-wise) after the first month, because I will BE GETTING PAID!!!!!!!!!! MY FIRST ACTUAL JOB (not an internship).
I have done the math and created a goal amount of 5000 reais, or $1000 if anyone would like to help with the before-arrival costs.
The goal will be really hard to reach, I believe, because it is so close to the date, but truly anything helps.
If you would like to help and are able to do so, you can do that by “buying me a ko-fi” here: https://ko-fi.com/A6772S7G
I will, of course, be updating this post to share how the fundraising is going.
You can help in other ways too: If you’re Indian, please hit me up here on tumblr (send a message!) as I have been doing some research and watching loads of videos about the subcontinent, but I would love to actually talk to more Indians for some tips. In these days before the trip, I have picked up on trying to learn a bit of Tamil, the local language of where I will be staying. if you know the language hit me up! (I’m begging you, I am having such a hard time finding videos that teach basic Tamil, like the drawing of the alphabet in English or with subs)
If you could please also share this post, that helps a lot too!
Thank you very much!
