I like to think Lucio/Montag always had conjuration magic and was just too unaware of it even if it constantly happened.
Lily, being a fae, is naturally allergic to iron. Montag is very aware of this due to stories he’s heard from his mother as well as Lily’s own admission. He goes out of his way to make sure Lily doesn’t get close to it by offering alternatives.
