Travels with my sketchbook - Burl outcrop at Big Basin Redwoods State Park.
As part of the research and design phase for the ‘A Walk Through The Redwood Forest’ mosaic trail for the new Stanford Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital in Palo Alto, CA I spent some time drawing and sketching at Big Basin. The experience transformed the designs from ones which tried to look at these massive trees, to an overall design that focused on the forest floor and the process of moving through a forest.
