❝He’d chosen him because he could still speak. The dornenheit didn’t spread through its afflicted, only through the land itself, though most were still loath to touch them, lest a man’s fingers fall off and sprout roots at their feet.❞ 

The dornenheit is an affliction of an unknown magical origin, spreading through the land and turning anything it touches into thick briars. It manifests as the blackthorne, which proves untreatably lethal, except by way of the Reiken’s healing Miracles. Symptoms include nausea, insomnia, delirium, anxiety, exhaustion, migraines, and bouts of blindness. As the body begins to break down, certain functions are overtaken by the blackthorne and are lost. In late stages, dense fluid fills the lungs. Either leads to certain death.
