Finally: a governess who was more than a match for the cheeky, disrespectful young Rosalie.  It had been less than a week since her arrival yet already so much progress had been made.  There had been arguments over how the girl should speak; how she should sit; how she should study.  There had been protests over the rule that she was to stand and curtsey whenever an adult - yes, even one of the servants - entered the room.  And the fuss she had made over being put back into a gymslip and knee socks - well, it had been little short of hysterical.  But Miss Gibson, a staunch believer in traditional discipline methods, had used her slipper and cane to win every single battle.  And Rosalie was starting to realise - finally - that being a good little girl was a lot less painful than behaving like a naughty brat.

A lot less painful but completely humiliating :)
