Since 1947, women were barred from voting by local leaders in Mauza Mohripur, a farming village in Pakistan, until 29-year-old Fouzia Talib registered to vote. Her bravery came with a price. Talib was escorted by police and soldiers to the polling booth for her own safety and ostracized by her village.
Though, she was the only woman from her community to vote, Talib said “it was necessary because it is a women’s right.”
