Star of stage and screen, Ncuti is best known for his critically acclaimed performance in Sex Education as the iconic Eric Effiong, for which he was awarded Best Actor Award at the Scottish BAFTA’s in 2020 as well as numerous nominations including Best Male Performance in a comedy programme at this year’s BAFTA’s.

I’m sure you’re dying to know more, but we’re rationing ourselves for now, with the wonderful Jodie’s epic finale yet to come. But I promise you, 2023 will be spectacular!”

I’m also REALLY relieved to see that they didn’t just cast a white dude as if to go “Okay we had a woman as the Doctor, now back to him always being a cishet white guy”
So, this is how I expect the announcement of the new Doctor to drop, not Sunday’s banal little twitter thing.
It irks me that after the leadup and fanfare the greeted the debut of Capaldi and Whitaker, Gatwa’s ascension to the role is so low key.
(Also, I would have loved if they could have kept it under wraps until Jodi’s regeneration. But the series is so starved of any sort of genuine impetus in the media you can see why they decided to undercut her last outing with this)
