my friend is a brown muslim bisexual woman who’s family has hit hard economic times. Fleeing the Netherlands at one point due to extreme islamophobia, they decided to return for better access to medical mental health care. moving is expensive, being pressured to move is even more expensive. all of this compounds with the current COVID-19 pandemic, due to strict border requirements my friends cat Skitty is currently stranded in Istanbul. they are currently in need of money to both bring Skitty home AND contribute to their family’s rent and grocery expenses while they resettle. If she cannot gather the funding Skitty will have to be humanly euthanized.
We can all empathize with the lonely feelings of the pandemic. i personally can say i wouldn’t have made it through this all this far without my pets, and i’m sure some of you feel the same. Emotional Support Animal doesn’t come close to explaining how important this little cat is to her. They have spent agonizing months apart (for the both of them!) and it would mean so much to have them reunited.
this is just more fucking evidence to stop debating with terfs. point blank period. stop debating terfs, stop going to their blogs and hatereading their posts, stop reblogging them to ‘dunk on them’ stop talking to them to convince them to join your side. ESPECIALLY if you’re tme and at this point the next time i see a tme person interact with a terf in any way besides instantly cutting contact i’m blocking them.
this is what happens! every single time! they worm their way into your minds and they tap into that transmisogyny you have ingrained to you, no matter how much time you’ve spent working on it they’re going to find exactly the right way to amplify that and get you to be disgusted and hateful towards trans women too! that’s literally how terfism fucking works and if you allow them to share their voices to you and ESPECIALLY to your followers, no matter what your intentions are, no matter how much you think you can convince them otherwise, that’s what’s going to happen! the moment you even give yourself an OPPORTUNITY to sit down and think “wait, what if the terfs are right?” you’ve already failed the trans women you claim to want to protect.
this is not about censorship this is not about ignoring critical thinking or ignoring the other side this is about not letting a fucking hate group built on racism and supported by the far-right use every opportunity they can to amplify and twists and manipulate your beliefs into hatred of trans women. and if you think they should be given the chance to do that, you never cared about trans women in the first place.
imo we need to treat warning/callout posts as a last resort. if someone is saying/doing something fucked up and it’s the first time, not a pattern, it’s best to try and talk to them first.
all i can ever wish is a lifetime of good karma for these ex-friends who showed themselves to be the most loving and dedicated and brave people i’ve ever seen… they did not have to put their hearts and souls into quite literally a movement and subject themselves so police interaction and transmisogynistic antiblack threats and accusations of BEING the danger to a peer. these are some real good people.
if you ever interacted in any way with information that would implicate these black trans (ex)friends, block me and donate a fucking apology. especially elissia who’s name was literally on an information sheet as a fucking SUSPECT since everyone wanted to play CSI.
