I forgot to post these on Tumblr, sorry! During the spring a friend took me to a park while no one was around to do some photos. Last time I did photos in this cosplay it was winter and were done inside since it was too cold. Now I was able to do some warm photos in the outside and greenery.

I really love this cosplay! I am so proud of the work I did. I hope to do more professional photos in the future when I am able to. I have soooo many photo ideas for this cosplay the requires professional help ><

Finally I get the share the full photos of my Princess Yona: Sword Dance cosplay. After all the struggle with shipping, I am so happy with how it turned out! <3

This cosplay also ended up winning Best Novice Category at Anime Milwaukee back in Feb. My first trophy! I am so happy, that I almost cried.

Took us a few takes to get a nice video of me spinning in my Yona dress. I am so happy with how this cosplay came out!

Here is Part 2 of my Yona’s Sword Dance cosplay WIP.

As I worked on Yona’s dress I used a light weight navy denim for the collar, cuffs, and hem of the dress. I left the sleeves unattached because I paid a friend do all the embroidery work. My hand embroidery skills are very limited and I knew I that a machine would do better work than I would. Once I recieved the dress back, I was able to sew on the trim that is between the denim and purple embroidery. After that I sewed the side seam of the sleeves and attached them. For the hem, collar, and cuffs I hand stitched them closed on the underside. I did not want a top stitch to be used for any of these areas. I wanted to make it look flawless. The lengthy part was hand stitching the hem. It took me about 2.5 hours.

For the sash, I finished adding the fringe. I would later add some gold foil to the denim fabric, which you will see in a future post when I do final photos.

For Yona’s shoes, I bought some simple black flats that I spiced up with some gold foil techniques. I had to go back to fill in some spots I missed with the foil glue.

This cosplay had a LOT of jewelry that I had to make. This was my first time working with beads and gemstones. It was very exhausting to find what I wanted to use. I picked gemstones that might be found in Asia.

First necklace: This necklace was the first one I finished and would be wrapped around the sword. It is made of three gemstones: 6mm amethyst round beads, 8mm blue dyed jade round beads, and large teal green apatite nugget beads. At the center of the necklace is a large Tibetan styled pendant.

Second Necklace: This is actually 2-4 necklaces in one, depending on your view. It sits around my neck and is the main focal point. It deals with a 3 tiered necklace that features  over 200 gold hematite beads and two lapis lazuli oval connectors. The other necklaces consist of 10 gold round pendants with 30 gold bar pendants and 6mm gold rondelle beads. For the gold pendants I had to file off two of the five hoop connectors to fit the style more. The necklace that consist of the pendants is actually attached to the last tier of the first necklace. this lessons the use of necklace clips and made it so that the pendants laid nicely across my chest.

Earrings: I have to say this was the easiest part to make of this cosplay. I used two large lapis lazuli barrel beads, two butterfly spacer beads, and two gold tassels.

The sword was also lengthy process to make, mostly because I am not much of a prop maker. I used a 24 inch long by 3 inch wide basswood, along with a smaller length for the handle, and thin balsa wood. The store was out of the normal 36 inch basswood that I would have used instead. I also used foam to add the layering effect on the handle. One of the major tools for the sword was a good burner. After I engraved the design onto the sword, I went over it with the wood burner. The wood burner also goes through foam with ease and made the designs go smoothly. Once the paint job was done I put two holes into the base of the handle and used some heavy duty white thread to tie the necklace into place.

I look forward to doing final photos this weekend.

This is Part 1 of my Yona’s Sword Dancing Cosplay Progress. This cosplay has taken me three months to make and most of it was just waiting for supplies to arrive in the mail. I had a LOT of shipping issues and fabric issues. The blue fabric I used for this cosplay was very hard to fine. Two of the stores I order from were out of it or discontinued what I originally wanted to use. So ended up having to settle for another fabric which ended up having the effect I wanted.

I choose this cosplay because it was one of my favorite scenes in the manga, however it was never seen in the anime. I did get lucky and a fellow fan saw the new stage play, which feature this scene. They were able to show me photos
of the costume from the stage play which gave me more ideas for my cosplay. A lot of the cosplay deals with beaded fringe, beaded necklaces, and a lot of hand sewing.

The first thing I made was the anklets. I use a snap as a fastener. These took like five minutes to make. Super simple.

The next part was the sash. I used a beautiful silk stripe fabric I found on Etsy. I always wanted to work with silk and it was so nice to work with and added such a beautiful touch to the cosplay. This is fastened with velcro at the side and hidden by the two tails of the sash. I used the same fabric for the body of the dress and the boarder of the dress for the ends of the tails. Once the side seam was done I sewed on two buttons on each side of the tails. You will see more in detail in Part 2.

The easiest part was making the dress. I used a poplin fabric in the shade lavender. Then I used a navy blue light weight denim for the collar, cuffs, and hem of the dress (You will see in Part 2). Usually these dresses would tie at the sides, but I used snaps to lesson the bulk the ties would make. The sleeves have not been sewn on because I later would have a friend embroider on the sleeve cuffs and such, I will talk more in detail about that in Part 2.

The lengthy part has been the hat. I used a very stiff interfacing along with wire to make the base of the hat. The wire in hand stitch into place. Then I overlay the denim and machine stitched it into place. It took a while to work on the hat because I had to wait for supplies of the beads and trim. Took about a month to get all those and still had to order more. Lesson: When doing bead work buy more than you think! I hand stitch the trim into place. For the short beaded fringe I used 4mm gold hematite round beads and small amethyst nugget beads. For the longer beaded fringe I used 6mm amethyst round beads and large teal apatite nugget beads. More information and photos on the hat will be in the next blog post.

At the beginning of September, I went to a Japanese Festival at the Missouri Botanical Gardens. Sadly, the day I went it was raining. So I was unable to get a lot of photos. Their Japanese Garden was perfect for my Sword Dance Yona cosplay. I hope to go back in the future and try to get some more photos.

Maybe one day I will make her royalty gowns <3

Even since Hiryuu’s death, Zeno had kept to himself, lived by the promise he had made to remain the sole protector of his tomb. He had once lived hearing the voice of God, then a warrior of dragon blood protecting his one and only King, and once, for a short and blessed moment, as nothing more than a married man.

He missed it. He missed them, all these lives he had lived yet none of it ever remains, for all who spoke of or witnessed it laid in their burial far before Zeno could ever see the trace of age darkening his skin and it ate at him, the memories which were only his to claim, the grief which kept coldly reminding him he was the only Sacred One left in this world. That all the dragons had come to live and pass and ascend to the Heavens to witness the sight of one another once more, and Zeno was left with but the blurry memory of faces he once knew so deeply he could draw in the dark.

He couldn’t die. That was the end of it really, and after two thousands years lived in the sole company of his mind, nothing could light the flame of his aching heart.

Until one day, at the break of dawn the sky bore a crimson color humanity had long forgotten, one Zeno had seen for days on end carried by the hairs and eyes of his King; no matter the passing of time the sky remained as such from dawn to dusk and Zeno cried, let himself fall to the ground in earth-stained sobs because it was it, the one calling of his soul returning to him once more.

Hiryuu would return. Because it was the meaning of this vermillon sky, the promise of their Once King now reborn.

He only had to wait, just a little more. A year worth at best, but Zeno had waited so long, so painfully long already, what was a handful of months against the promise of ceasing to merely exist, to truly live?
