man. that convo between jester and marion got me right in the feels. I mean, jester was solemnly talking to marion about the possibility of not coming back, even getting teary, but the second marion got emotional and basically pleaded for jester to come back and for her not to be a martyr. Instantly a switch flips in jester and she is all reassurances and “don’t worry’s” and “i’m fines.”
i got reminded of jester and beau talking on the boat when after beau says to jester “you are a really bad liar” and jester responds through a big smile “i’m a really good liar, beau.”
when marion was telling jester that she needed to be selfish and come back no matter what and jester’s attitude flips, she was lying through her smile. she was straight up lying to her mom about coming back, because jester is committed to stopping lucian and the TT, the somnovum and the city from wreaking havoc at all costs. even at the expense of her own life.
and she had to say that everything was fine and that she would come back no matter what, with a pretty smile on her face, because jester is a really good liar, beau.
