Armor!

I’ve been studying old European armor and decided to do a series mixing it with modern clothes, in a sort of modern knights aesthetic. I’m thinking of continuing it with different armors, because it’s been a lot of fun!

mediumaevum:

The Battle of the Ice, also known as the Battle of Lake Peipus , was a battle between the Republic of Novgorod and the Livonian branch of theTeutonic Knights (whose army consisted mostly of Estonians) on April 5, 1242, at Lake Peipus. The battle is notable for its having been fought largely on top of the frozen lake.

The battle was a significant defeat sustained by Roman Catholic crusaders during the Northern Crusades, which were directed against pagans and Eastern Orthodox Christians rather than Muslims in the Holy Land. The crusaders’ defeat in the battle ended campaigns against the Orthodox Novgorod Republic and other Russian territories for the next century.

militant-holy-knight:

The Great Siege of Malta—one of the most historic and iconic sieges in European history. Approximately 6000 Christian soldiers comprised of local Maltese, Italians, Spanish, French, Germans, Greeks, and a single Englishman, led by Grand Master Jean Parisot de la Valette, withstood a four-month siege at the hands of 48.000 Ottomans.

After 130.000 cannonballs and approximately 30-35.000 Turkish deaths, the Ottomans finally gave up and began to abandon the siege on 8 September 1565. Three days later, on 11 September 1565, the Christian relief forces routed the remaining Ottoman troops.

The 8th of September, the day that the Turks began to flee, has been an official holiday in Malta since 1924, celebrated as ‘Victory Day’ or the ‘Feast of Our Lady of Victory’.
