2000’s fashion was global mash up of trends that included the fusion of previous vintage styles, global and ethnic clothing (e.g. boho), and the fashions of numerous music-based subcultures.
Hip-hop artists expanded into fashion in the 00’s with brands such as Rocawear, Ekko and Sean Jean and also rapped about fashion trends, such as the Nelly classics: Grillz and Air Force Ones.
In an entirely different subculture, Emo bands like Fall Out Boy, My Chemical Romance and Taking Back Sunday inspired emo/scene teens to straighten their hair, wear heavy eyeliner and rep their favorite bands or cartoons on their hoodies.
Other popular trends:Trucker hats, visible underwear, low rise jeans, logo jewelry and purses, velour tracksuits (Juicy Couture if you were rich or famous), airbrush and/or rhinestone words on shirts, and hair scarves.

I tried my best to include all the clothing styles of the 1990’s: grunge, modern preppy, punk and hip-hop. The 90’s are back right now, but I am thankful that thin, tiny eyebrows did not make a resurgence. I was born in the early 90’s so this was a ton of fun for me to create.

Next up in my 20th Century Decades series is the 1970’s.
Polyester jumpsuits, fringe jackets, flared pants, maxi dresses and retro T-shirts are just a few of the decade’s memorable clothing for women. Men’s clothing was similar with loon pants, pattern shirts, platform shoes, and big belts.
Disco took over the 70’s. In hot nightclubs in New York City or Paris, dressing for a disco was a chance to wear your personality, much like a costume. With flashing lights, spinning disco ball and loud music, a chance for conversation were minimal so the disco costume had to say it all.

From the civil rights movement, to the shocking assignations of Martin Luther King and John F. Kennedy and of course, the Vietnam War, the 1960's were an eventful decade. Naturally, there were many different fashion trends as well.
In the early years, women’s fashion idol was Jackie Kennedy Onassis with her white pearls and tailored suit dresses. By the middle of the decade, supermodel Twiggy had women freeing their minds and bodies into clothing that didn’t require any extra thought or effort. From modest to “there is no such thing as too short,” 1960’s fashion was in many ways like the 1920’s flapper revolution. Men continued to wear suits and sweaters, but added British Mod, Beatnik, and Hippie styles to their wardrobe.

Last but not least in my 20th Century Lookbook series is the 1950’s. I saved this decade for last because it’s one of my personal favorite styles (see simself lookbook) and I actually already made a 50’s lookbook when I first started this simblr! Thank you all for following along and I hope if you attempt the Decades Challenge that I made your life a little easier
The 1950’s was a decade where housewives wore full skirt dresses, husbands donned suits and fedora hats, and teenagers danced to Rock ‘n Roll in poodle skirts at sock hops. I took inspiration from James Dean,Elvis,the original Barbie dollandBettie Page for a few of these looks.
By the end of the decade, the world had largely recovered from World War II and the Cold War developed to a hot competition between the United States and the Soviet Union by the early-1960’s.
Clashes between communism and capitalism dominated the decade, especially in the Northern Hemisphere. The conflicts included the Korean War in the beginnings of the decade and the beginning of the Space Race with the launch of Sputnik 1.

The 1940’s started during WWII where clothing had to be economical but still fashionable. The pin up girl kept men entertained overseas while Rosie the Riveter was an inspiration for women on the home front (in the USA).

When I first thought about 30’s fashion I drew a blank. Once I did some research, I realized I attributed many of these styles to the 20’s and 40’s.
Fashion was quite glamorous for those not suffering from the Great Depression. The 30’s is also the era of Old Hollywood where women wore long, elegant bias cut gowns and skirts that were long columns with a slight flare at the hem. Men wore broad-shouldered suits and high-waisted pants.

I have embarked on a 20th Century Decades Lookbook series and next up is the 1920’s as requested by @sarkana-sims.
1920’s fashion centered around the revolution of freedom in both clothing and morals. People broke out of Victorian-era prim and proper styles and into more casual wear. Clothing was comfortable yet showed off an entirely new and outrageous use of color and decoration.
A few fun facts I learned while creating these looks:
Many people associate fishnet tights and dark eyeshadow with the 1920’s () In fact, the only women who wore fishnets were showgirls (not your run-of-the-mill flappers) and dark eyeshadow was only worn by stars filming movies because it showed up better on camera (no color pictures yet!)
I wanted to put facial hair on my masculine sim, but I found out that wearing facial hair in the 20’s was a sign that you were hiding something (!!) such as old scars from a smallpox outbreak.

The 1910's continued the conservative lifestyles of the Victorian and Edwardian eras during the first half of the decade. Following the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand (presumptuous heir to the Austro-Hungarian throne) on June 28, 1914, the first World War broke out in Europe just 33 days later on August 1, 1914. The war dragged on until a truce was declared on November 11, 1918 leading to the signing of the one-sided Treaty of Versailles on June 28, 1919.
Besides the Great War, other notable events during this decade were the sinking of the most luxurious ship at the time, the RMS Titanic in 1912, the completion of the Panama Canal in 1914 and the discovery of Machu Picchu in 1911.
I based three sims off of fictional, but historically accurate characters based in the 1910s: Bert and Mary Poppins from Mary Poppins and Rose from Titanic. Since I am not great at recreating actual people in The Sims, I used MasterDave_X’s ‘Kate Winslet’ and melpomenemusa’s ‘Mary Poppins’ as bases for two of my sims.

Hot on the heels of the Victorian era was the Edwardian era, or: the 1900’s. The Edwardian era was 1901 to 1910 (the very short reign of King Edward) but many people extended the era to 1914 to reflect the start of WWI.
The Edwardian period is sometimes portrayed as a romantic golden age of long summer afternoons and garden parties, but also seen as a mediocre period of pleasure between the great achievements of the Victorian era and the catastrophe of the following war.
Tall, stiff collars characterize the period, as do women’s broad hats, full “Gibson Girl” hairstyles and lace tea dresses.

The 1890′s were a transitional decade from the stiff Victorian Era to a brand new century. Urban centers were growing, and new technologies, such as the introduction of electricity into clothing manufacturing, produced a boom in the ready-to-wear market.
The “New Woman” of the era was an intellectual young woman who worked, cycled, and played sports. She wore skirts that were bell shaped and large sleeves called leg-o-mutton or gigot sleeves. Around 1897, the silhouette began to slowly shift with the introduction of the straight-front corset.
This lookbook is basically an homage to @vintagesimstressand @gilded-ghosts with a liiiittle @linzlu sprinkled on top. If you’ve wanted to start the decade challenge, look no further than these amazing creators!
