He visits Harry from beyond the grave, to tell him how he died and to warn him against Dorian. At first, Harry is terrified, until Basil reminds him of the love they had shared, and shows him how he died.
With Dorian dead and the portrait returned to normal, Harry is alone again, and assumes Basil has moved on to the afterlife…
