MERCURY DIMES FOR MERCURY RETROGRADE

Many people lug around bags of crystals or conduct complex rituals in an attempt to ward off the negative effects of Mercury retrogrades. However, it is said that carrying a simple Mercury dime can help.

Silver coins have been widely used in magic for centuries. In the U.S., the Mercury dime, minted from 1916 - 1945, became a folk magic staple in the 20th century. (The artist intended the portrait to be Winged Liberty, but it looks so much like the god Mercury that he won out and the name stuck.)

With the protective qualities of silver and a picture of Mercury himself, a Mercury dime makes a logical and convenient curio that fits easily in purse or pocket. Prices for these antique coins vary widely – pristine collector-quality dimes can cost a pretty penny – but perfectly good “working” Mercury dimes with some wear can usually be found on eBay for a few dollars.

I know I’ll be carrying one during this Mercury retrograde.
