some quick edits to that new faerie bg that was released (original is on the bottom)… I don’t know, there’s just something about the style of the js bgs that I don’t really like all that much

they feel very harsh compared to old backgrounds, which seem much “softer”

I’ve been looking at the backgrounds and I think there’s several reasons for it:

- too many small lines and details. this, coupled with the hard shading, makes details in the background jarring

- “copy and paste” effect is very obvious for some things. in this bg it’s the purple and red flowers that are the most noticeable–they’re all the same flower copied and pasted (the garland flowers are as well but at least have some variety in color)

- too many colors, too saturated colors

these are all my personal opinions, I just feel like there’s been so many backgrounds that had great concepts but were executed suboptimally. I’m not a fan of this background style that is the current norm, everything just feels weirdly harsh. also i feel like we’ve been getting a lot of these “centered walkway” type backgrounds lol
