Striking Contemporary Sculptures Inspired by Ancient Art by Massimiliano Pelletti
Massimiliano Pelletti, an artist based in Italy, feels an unexplained pull towards the human body, which he tries to portray through fragmented sculptures.
Though the human physique has always been the object of study amidst classical sculptors, Pelletti brings in his own contemporary twist to it; he intentionally juxtaposes crystalline elements on the smooth surface of marble carvings to create a textural depth that will mesmerise anyone passing by. It can be said that the artist, in his own ways, is trying to promote the idea of being imperfectly perfect in a world where a narrow definition of the term “beauty” reigns. In this sublime piece, he has used his signature style of incorporating crystalline foam on the face and bust of a women, something that can evoke a lot of conversation and stir questions in the minds of the viewers.
Pelletti, being born to an Artisan family, had his first lessons on the various techniques of processing marble from his grandfather. And later he had attended the Stagio Stagi Art School to pursue his passion that shaped him to be the sculptor he is today.
