Star Wars: The Force Awakens 2015, dir. J.J. Abrams
This little exchange (and similar scenes) is part of why I was so impressed with the first of the sequel movies. Like, these characters had INSTANT chemistry. Poe is so charismatic and cheeky. That last gif, just… *chef’s kiss*
And Finn saying, “It’s the right thing to do,” is a heart-of-the-hero moment. He hates his situation, but he could just keep his head down and ignore everything, to save himself. But he doesn’t. He does the right thing, and by that first step he goes on a journey where he finally is seen as a person, an individual that matters, and starts to feel alive.
It’s been 7 years now, but that first movie was just so exciting and thrilling. To riff on another title in the series, it felt like “a new hope” - hope for the world around us and hope for the future of the story. It made me happy to be a casual fan.
