Inktober 2018 Day 4 - SPELL.
Children living close to Lake Aghandur know pretty well not to venture near its shores alone at night. They have all heard, at least one time in their short lives, the cautionary tale of Unma, told by their mothers and grandmothers.
Unma, being barren, resented the fertility of Amla, her younger sister, mother of two beautiful boys, and tested by the god Holoss, could not overcome the jealousy and the fear of being considered a lesser person.
One night, while her sister was away, she lured her two nephews to the waters of Aghandur, and there, stabbed them and drowned them in the cristaline waters of the lake’s shore.
Almost imediately, the haze put upon her by Holoss was lifted and she became aware of her crime. In desperation, she dove into the lake to look for the children and the waters turned mirky and dark.
Brabmi, keeper of the sanctity of rivers and springs, was disgusted by the act and condemned Unma to be trapped inside the spoiled lake for eternity, searching for her nephews in vain.
It is said that, in the dark nights where the moon is absent, she sometimes comes to the surface, and captures less careful children, mistaking them for Abban and Bonn, her dead nephews.
