I find it fascinating that every year the world celebrates a whole nation with the drinking of beer and wearing green. And yet it makes total sense. Like Chesterton said, these people are a paradox: beautifully sad yet cheerfully bellicose. Even their enemies admire them. The Celtic Spirit is is alive and well long after the Gales that Chesterton wrote about have passed on their joyful sorrow. So happy Saint Patrick’s Day! Enjoy your sad songs and beer! I know I will!
