The White House didn’t officially celebrate July 4th until 1801. Thomas Jefferson opened the ‘President’s House,’ as it was called at the time, to all people. He also invited diplomats, officers, and Cherokee chiefs, and had live music, horse races, and cockfights for entertainment. Source Source 2
