Some WIPs! And some screencaps at 100% magnification- I like to work big! I start with a 4000x4000 canvas in SAI and adjust it as needed, though they usually stay pretty square. These are both the results of one sitting of work. Not sure how long that is, a couple hours from the first sketch to this chunk here? I will have to actually time myself. They will both need 2-3 more sittings to be complete, and then maybe one more after that before I decide they’re worthy of being prints.

I’m trying to be “painterly” with these, that is, layer upon layer upon layer as if working with traditional media. Not to imitate paint necessarily, though it allows for more spontaneity this way. But it’s different than the monster design, which utilizes lineart layer + color layer + shadow layer method. This is just painting right over the sketches, then painting over that, then painting over that, and each layer is at max 75% transparency.
