a friend and i are making an au atm and we want to set it in the victorian era but we don’t want to deal w some of the social bullshit so we’re doing a kinda. mundane alt history. no magic (at least none that 99.99% of the population knows about).
the key differences from our universe are:
1) racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, antisemitism, etc were never institutionalized. some folks are still bigots on an individual basis (bc humanity) but there’s no social system behind them
2) the state of montana was founded in 1828 instead of 1889
in Houston we have something called the 100 Club where if you donate 100 dollars to the police in a year you get a special, very visible sticker you can put on your back window that obviously in no way influences the way cops treat you and i just now learned that isnt a universal thing
