NOT BOLD = What the person who made this Pann post wrote
BOLD= What Suga wrote on his Pann post
ITALICS = Translator Note

5 years ago, a member of Bangtan actually posted on Pann and a screenshot has been made.

The writer is Min Yoongi, which is Suga’s real name. He posted this on May 22nd, 2010. It was when Suga promoted underground under the stage name Gloss, before he entered (BigHit) as a trainee. He personally wrote and composed his own song and then posted it on Pann.

(T/N: Yoongi means shine/luster/gloss, hence his stage name when he was promoting underground.)

That video that Suga himself created is about the 5.18 day, when people rose up during the Gwangju Pro-Democracy Movement. He collected the photos and composed the song himself for the video. For reference, 5.18 is from the May 1980 Pro-Democracy Movement, which lasted from the 18th until the 27th. Jeonnam as well as Gwangju citizens demanded and fought for the abolishment of martial law, for Jeon Doo-hwan’s resignation, etc during the Pro-Democracy Movement.

(T/N: Jeon Doo-hwan was a South Korean army general who served as the corrupt, unelected leader (tyrant) of South Korea from December 1979 to September 1980. He was sentenced to death in 1996 for his role in the Gwangju Massacre, but was later pardoned by President Kim Young-Sam.)

From here, these are the lyrics

image

이 가사에서 애국가와 내 국가 라는 라임이 인상깊음…

I’m deeply impressed by these rhymes that have the national anthem and my country in the lyrics…

image

I sympathize with the lyrics ‘Don’t believe the tongue of the one who is covering his own will’…

image

And Suga enlightened us with the reason why he wrote about this subject.

image

I applied to the composition song festival ‘Cheong’ in Gwangju in May, but my song was mercilessly dropped in the first preliminary round.ㅠㅠ

I was reluctant to just throw it away, so I’m posting it here in the Nate Video section.

Naksyeon hyung-nim, the leader of the hip-hop crew D-TOWN that is active in Daegu, did the rapping.

D-TOWN’s producer Gloss produced this song, 518-062.

The meaning of 518-062 is the combined words of the Gwangju area code, 062, and 518 from 5.18, the date on which the Pro-Democracy Movement occurred.

five-one-eight from the o to the six two; in other words, the meaning is the rise of the 5.18 movement in Gwangju

Let’s ruminate about the song he created about the day of 5.18 that is gradually disappearing from our memories.

image

This song was made to ruminate once again about the 5.18 Pro-Democracy Movement that is gradually becoming forgotten in our memories.
You might have thought of a postal code if you read the numbers 518-062.
(If you didn’t, I’m sorry)
I made the words thinking about a postal code.
I hope this song 518-062 becomes a postal code and conveys a message to many people that says, ‘I won’t forget the 5.18 Pro-Democracy Movement.’

Even though there aren’t many things to see, please come visit a lot!!

And the comments…kekekekeke Suga texted his acquaintances and friends and sent them this article link, so the comments are all messages full of fighting from his friends..

When Suga made that song, he was a high school sophomore.

His appearance at that time

Seriously, Suga is not just an artist; I think he is a cool person that many can learn from as a person. I hope that through this article, we all take the opportunity to remember and ruminate about 5.18 and the Gwangju Pro-Democracy Movement.

And even if you don’t care about this Suga article, this is my favorite school criticism rap of Suga. As a student who studies, I sympathize with the lyrics a lot… A society that  makes you step on even your close friends in order to rise up;;;

Suga’s School Critism Rap Lyrics Translations

The foundation of school violence, a vicious cycle that cannot end
There is no exit in this crowded ring called a classroom
That’s right, in the end, school is a microcosm of this society
The climate of a jungle arbitrarily made by adults
They made the weaklings weak, they made the strong powerful
Since they were the strong, of course they made the weak suffer like that
The power of a pecking-order society built on the teaching that friends are foes
The morals of adults made us step on those with no power in order to rise to the top
Corporal punishment has been banned in a moment of violence
Saying ‘I didn’t know because I was out of it’ became an excuse
That’s right, this society is filled with bystanders that are no different from perpetrators
The students confined inside the classrooms within us are victims

+) I saw the comments, and thank you to everyone who gave Suga a compliment. Later when Suga’s mixtape comes out, please support it!

I’m just an Inspirit passing by, but the more I see Suga, the more I think his personality is good and that he gives a good impression.

To do that, to write lyrics like that, he must have studied a lot about that movement.. I didn’t know that he was such an upright and bright kid

I hope Suga becomes a little more known for his rap skills… I think it’s a shame that Rapmon has the spotlight and we can’t see Suga as muchㅠ In addition to his skills, Suga always thinks deeply before speaking, and each and every one of his actions and words is cool. He also has a sense of loyalty and takes care of his members well. He even writes lyrics and composes songs well too. Suga made “Tomorrow” and in the song the lyrics “The dawn before the sun rises is the darkest, so even in the distant future, never forget the you of right now” are seriously good. Seems like he’s saying that you shouldn’t give up, even if it’s the darkest before the sun rises. His writing seemed to leave a meaning in the lyrics that the difference between success and failure/despair is one step. And he writes sweet lyrics well too: In the song “Miss Right,” he wrote, “In between our couple shoes are children’s shoes.” Those aren’t common love lyrics; they’re romanticㅠ
