As someone who studies history I often wondered how ordinary people thought about living through such huge historical events. Now I know they were sick and tired of that shit.
Ftr, the primary sources they left behind bear this out. Like not to miss the joke but quite honestly just about every diary or letter series or whatever reinforces this: most people in big historical events just wanted them to be over so they could get back to the day to day living (or into a new, non-horrific state depending) WITH LESS STRESS.
The predominant tone of personal primary sources from any one of your favourite Exciting Eras of History are of exhaustion, resentful or resigned depending.
