#a treeful of monkeys on nitrous oxide

LIVE

My fave type of fictional female character: not so much feisty as hard and cold, but with a capacity for turning super intense. Sometimes, she has a gentler and/or noble side. Bonus if she’s hot and borderline problematic.

anghraine:

I’m still distracting myself with LP&D and with the scene I may or may not actually write (and which would be from Elizabeth’s half-oblivious POV if I did), namely: Lady Catherine de Bourgh accidentally hosts the worst queer dinner party.

Attendees:

Colonel Fitzwilliam: bi, genially flirting with Elizabeth and ganging up with her on Catherine, whom he a) platonically loves and respects and b) finds hilariously un-self-aware.

Anne de Bourgh: bi, bored with everyone except Charlotte, whom she likes in a self-absorbed way.

Catherine Darcy: lesbian, trying (with little success) to avoid looking at Elizabeth and low-grade alarmed at the Fitzwilliam/Elizabeth flirtation for both personal and snobbish reasons.

Charlotte Collins: lesbian, has complicated feelings about Elizabeth (her pretty, vivacious bff) and Catherine (intriguing and beautiful) and is trying to convince herself that Fitzwilliam/Elizabeth would be a good thing. Dutifully polite to Anne.

Elizabeth Bennet: bi, simultaneously having fun with Fitzwilliam, uncomfortably navigating the reality of Charlotte being Charlotte Collins, and would rather someone as evil as Catherine didn’t have to be quite so attractive.

Maria Lucas: bi, intimidated by everyone.

William Collins: token straight, oblivious to everything.

I haven’t started the next chapter of LP&D yet, but given that I don’t really envision Colonel Fitzwilliam orAnne de Bourgh as straight, the prospect of dinners at Rosings packing Fitzwilliam, Anne, Catherine, Charlotte, and a bi Elizabeth into one room have become kind of quietly hilarious to me.

I didn’t feel like writing and have to go shopping in a bit (meh), so I was just fiddling around the Djarn character creator to make approximations of Catherine and Elizabeth, and the advertising gods were like
