Blue, 5/29/2022, unbound pages in a handmade box, acrylic and ink washes, gesso on cotton rag papers with index cards (light blue), archival glue, archival 4 ply mat board, box measures (lying flat with lid on) 3 ¾ x 11 ¾ x 8 ¾ inches; the pages measure approximately 9 x 6 inches (some are smaller, some are a hair bigger, each one unique.)

I’ve been working on the Blueproject since February, it’s been quite the journey!  I had so much fun, even on my most frustrated days I still had fun. I just finished making the box on Monday morning, it was such a thrill to place the pages inside the box and see the finished project all together. There are 30 pages, painted front and back, making 60.  (Actually there are 32 pages because I also included the first two pages I made that were the original idea that came out of another separate project (a work in progress!) I am keeping these two prototypes in the box for now, they are slightly different, but fit in anyway.)

Blueis a celebration of my turning 60 this year.

WhyBlue? My Fred asked me this last night, (he was wondering if I was sad as in “feeling blue” because I’ve been through a rough time in spite of the joy this project has given me.)

I told him “Blue is my favorite color.”

Simple as that. It’s a blue box with blue pages, and it’s mine. It feels good to make art that I’ve always wanted to make, and the works I’ve made in the last 5 years or so (the Rare Book Library project and the pandemic/stress relief inspired sketchbooks) have been an amazing journey. I love what I do.

I will be including a page (yes, it will be blue too) with an artist statement (I still have to write it.)

I need to photograph it and make a new page on my website for it.
