“Gansey.”

The way Adam said it made the fireplace quiver, as if something dark had just rolled off his tongue to engulf the living room. Gansey held his gaze in a comfortable silence. It sounded like a warning.

“What are we doing?”, he said again.

Gansey attempted an innocent smile. “We’re drinking scotch and talking about…”

“You know,” Adam interrupted him, “what I mean.”

Merry Christmas with this idea I’ve had in my mind ever since Evermore came out last year. In this post-canon ‘verse, with the gangsey heading towards their thirties, Blue and Henry on the other side of the world, and Adam and Ronan’s relationship on the rocks, Gansey and Parrish both find themselves in DC during the holidays - Gansey at his parents house, Adam just passing by for the weekend. And the road not taken looks real good now.

Like many other stories, this too shall remain unpublished and hidden in my phone notes, but I couldn’t help drawing something from it! Also, I have been so obsessed by this concept that I also made a gifset for it last year. And of course I have an all-TS playlist for Adam and Gansey called yee-haw, 'cause duh.

Hope your holiday season is filled with love and warmth

the implication of the raven king epilogue being that adam is now driving ronan’s car around town is so funny to me because gansey’s definitely pissed off knowing all he had to do to get adam accepting help is kiss him on the mouth repeatedly

Another!@ravencyclebigbang , this time with @adamnsey!

The lighthouse, what can I say? I hope you like the rain. And I hope you like the indescribable yearn for a guy that’s a bit messed up.

When The Fog Clears has its first chapters out now and it has been so fun seeing it all come together. We all deserve to be a little unhinged, right?

He’d come over to study and they did. Adam did his Math homework at the tiny table as Gansey finished his history essay on the bed. They ate pizza and talked Glendower and fell asleep.

Well Adam fell asleep, Gansey dozed off and forty-six minutes later awoke with a sigh. Not tonight he thought, please just let me sleep.

If he was at Monmouth he’d listen to music and work on his miniature Henrietta to help with the insomnia. But he wasn’t at Monmouth, he was at Adam’s trying his hardest not to move and wake him.

Gansey spent the next twenty minutes making a list of things he had to do the next day and then the day after that. He then spent ten minutes watching Adam sleep, watching the way his chest rose and fell, his fingers twitch against the mattress. His eyes traced the outline of Adam’s hair as it formed a halo around his head, the tips illuminated by the courtyard lights.

He didn’t like that Adam looked younger in sleep, less burdened than he did whilst awake. He wished he could lessen the burden for him, but allowing that would mean Gansey lost the Adam he’d grown quite fond of. So he just pulled the sheet off himself and slowly rolled out of the bed, tucking the sheet back around Adam trying to keep in the warmth.

He walked over to the tiny bathroom, cringing as the pipes clunked when he turned on the tap. Splashing water on his face felt like defeat, like he was just going to bide time till the sun rose and he could lie about waking up early. He wished he was at Monmouth, he could go, take the pig and leave. walk down to a 24/7 convenience store get some orange juice.

Instead he sat down at the tiny table, flipping open Adam’s math book and looking over his homework. He poured over his handwriting, the elegance of it, straight but cramped meaning determined but with a confused mind that can wander off easily. According to the 3 articles he’d read about handwriting on his recent Wikipedia binge. It’s still productive if you’re learning, is what Gansey told himself when he lost four hours and handwriting analysis is an intriguing subject, when Ronan asked if he’d finished his science homework.

Adam rolled over, rubbing his face deeper into the pillow. Gansey let a smile play on his lips for a brief moment, before trying to find something new to occupy his time that wasn’t watching Adam sleep.

He settled on origami, another Wikipedia learnt trait. He used the notes from his history class as he folded them precisely he deepened the creases by running the back of his nail over them. about about forty minutes he had a small pile of boats and cranes and a couple of hearts. He was about to start a paper water bomb when Adam’s deep voice cut through the silence.

“Gansey, what are you doing?” Adam half sat up in bed, the sheet falling down as he scratched his chest.

“I didn’t mean to wake you.” Gansey rubbed the back of his neck, putting down the paper.

 “You didn’t.”

They both knew he was lying.

“Come back to bed, yeah?” Adam laid back down settling into the mattress.

Gansey was getting exhausted but he didn’t know if it was a kind of exhausted sleep would cure. But he was getting cold, so Gansey made his way back to the bed. Adam scooted over to accommodate him, throwing the blanket over him tapping his chest. Gansey took it as a silent thank you.

“Remember the first time we went hiking,” Adam mumbled.

Gansey looked over to Adam his eyes were shut trying to reclaim sleep.

“Yes, we wen-” Adam’s hand flew out covering Gansey’s mouth. Gansey flinched back into the pillow.

“No talking,” He made an exaggerated shushing sound “Just thinking.”

Adam’s accent was getting heavier as his body was relaxing back into sleep.

“You said it calmed you, the trees, the fresh air, the warm sun.”

Gansey took a heavy breath in through his nose, wriggled down a bit to get comfortable and conjured up images of warm days hiking.

Adam’s voice mumbled into the pillow, “Think of the sun on your skin, of warm winds and…” Adam’s hand still over Gansey’s mouth relaxed, sleep taking over Adam. Gansey moved it to his chest and smiled.

He locked his fingers with Adam’s as his mind drifted from warm suns, back to the first time he and Adam went hiking. Ronan was hungover and bailed on him, throwing a pillow at Gansey’s head as a response to being woken. He was fine going alone until he drove passed Adam, on his way out of town. They’d only spoken a handful of times so he was surprised when he said yes and took a seat in the passenger side. He happily sat there allowing Gansey to ramble on about Glendower and the ley lines.

He doesn’t remember a lot else of the day, it went like most of their adventures, walking, talking and a whole lot of nothing to show for a day’s work. But Gansey does remember the moment he decided he needed Adam Parrish in his life.

It was his laugh, his warm, full laugh. They were deep in the forest, it had just rained the night before and He tripped on and rock landing right in a mud puddle. His leg went straight down into it, the mud came up to his mid-calf. He groaned as he tried to get up and was met with Adam’s laugh, it struck him because it wasn’t callous, and it sounded like he’d been saving it up and just found a reason to use it. Adam strode over to him still laughing asking is he was alright and helping him back up. Adam brushed him off and exclaimed well upwards and onwards, excelsior right echoing Gansey’s earlier words and he laughed. It’d been awhile since he’d felt that light, even covered in mud and tired from the day he was lighter than he had been in weeks. Adam Parrish stirred something in him that day and he vowed he was going to do everything he could to hang on to him.

That night Gansey drifted off to sleep with a smile on his face and Adam’s hand on his chest.

maybe gansey not only offers adam money and a place to stay so he can get out of his abusive household, but also because gansey knows what dying without living feels like, and he doesn’t want adam to die before he feels alive
