I fundamentally do not understand anyone who doesn’t want to think Cruel Summer and Illicit Affairs are about one Karlie Kloss, and the difficulties of navigating being head over heels with someone who sees you as a friend at best and someone temporary to experiment with at worst. What starts in beautiful rooms, tucked away in cabins and in forests, ends in parking lots while her husband stares you down. The worst thing she could ever hear was “I love you” because it meant that their casual fling was about to get a lot more complicated. Meanwhile Josh is this looming figure in all of this, grinning like a devil, but maybe not even purposefully, but a presence separating you all the same.
