Finished - Helium

I really like how this one turned out. Onward to hydrogen!

WIP - Helium

I tried a different approach to colour this one. So far I like it but it takes a bit more time than usual. It also doesn’t help that I’m right now learning how to crochet and grew a bit addicted to it XD

Lineart - Helium

I won’t do all elements but those I get ideas for/ find interesting

About those blimp wind turbines…

I’ve got some ideas.

I’m thinking we should research creating large wind turbine blimps with a hollow middle all the way through, lightweight flexible solar panels on top, a gondola on the bottom which can double as a three-unit house, shop or office, and which has catwalks that can connect it to the gondolas of similar structures. The catwalks need to be both sturdy and flexible.

The wind turbine or turbines and the solar panels will feed power to a pack of rechargeable long lasting batteries in the middle, just above the gondola and just below the hollow section. The wires must be able to handle the proper voltage and amperage.

The gondola must be fully liveable with hygienic functionality and at least one stock closet that can hold at minimum one week’s supply of comestibles. The gondola rooms must be well lit but the lights cannot use all the power generated at any time including if minimal light and wind conditions lasting at least for an hour is manifest.

The gondola may have a decentralized multiple media communications and networking capability using at least two or three simultaneous, packet switching based communication methods. The vehicle should also have automatic emergency transponders in case of helium envelope total failure, medical emergencies, or uncontrollable onboard fires.

The vehicle doesn’t have to be connected to the global internet at any time; in fact, that is a choice the inhabitants should have the agency to make or to not make. If they do make the decision to connect, they should be connected via a local area wireless network and should not be censored, filtered, invoiced, or tracked while using the internet.

The vehicle should also be equipped with standard PPE and firefighting equipment such as a box of 50 kn95 facemasks, co2 fire extinguishers, and a smoke alarm or two. Optional PPE such as reflective yellow safety vests, medical face shields, nitrile gloves, and a first aid kit and/or an AED should be provided for free by the dealer or at cost upon request.

The helium for the blimps should be acquired by the responsibility of the owner of the blimp. If the blimp is rented out or a glamping Airbnb, the owner - the lessor, not the lessee - should provide the helium.

Hell, I take that back. The blimp should never be a glamping Airbnb. The whole trend is ripe with con artists. This is a technology proposal for, by and of the people. People who need housing and don’t own the land they overfly.

A mooring cable should be a standard addition that might be acquired as an add-on. A pump, too.

Any furniture and entertainment gear and gadgetry shouldn’t be gifted in the blimp product, as that would send the cost of manufacture through the roof and create production line issues that can’t be solved under those constraints.

These are my ideas. Go get your own.

My $0.02, wind turbine blimps should actually just be blimps with big ol turbines off the back since ducted turbines don’t really work that well. Mooring cables and some kinda dock (see: Empire State Building - for real) would be good since I’m picturing the blades extending beyond the blimp’s footprint, so you couldn’t land outside of emergency situations. I guess if you could retract the blades somehow, maybe you could? It would make for a cool animation/narrative description even if impractical IRL.
