I know there has been a lot of speculation about whether or not Omega is still in Ghost. Like any fan who’s more or less devoted to a band I’m curious myself, especially since the founding members are so prominent and in spite of other replacements in the past two eras, there have always been six members with specific roles and, needless to say, musically necessary.
What I do know, however, is that it’s not uncommon for one member of a band to be on hiatus for a number of reasons which don’t mean they are gone for good. Alpha and Omega have been members of another band which is still active, has recorded new material, and is very close to releasing a new album. Obviously Ghost can’t be short both guitarists at once, so it’s logical to assume Omega may just be the one pulling double duty at the moment.
The new EP is not a new era, it’s an extension of Meliora. Ghost have been touring extensively as a six member band for a very long period of time and they’re at the very end of this big run right now. After spring’s European leg of Popestar they had planned to be done touring. I wouldn’t be surprised if they finished this with only five members, and were back to the usual six for the next album.
Honestly, the new music video featuring only four Ghouls did make me wonder a bit, but again its filming and release might also be a timing issue for Omega. The Summoning videos are likely done with actors, for example, so the official band members aren’t always in everything. He’s such a prominent and recognizable founding member of Ghost that his definite departure would be significant to them. He’s also one of the main song writers, along with Special Ghoul. I’m admittedly curious now more than ever, but I’m far from convinced that he is no longer in Ghost. I’m a lot more inclined to agree that he’s simply on a temporary break to take care of other things in his life.
I absolutely agree. TiD’s new album is going to be a pretty big deal! Omega is just putting in as much time as he can with them to make sure it’s their best album yet.
