Ancient Rome had an impressive variety of hairstyles which increased as the empire got older. While during the late times of the Republic and in first centuries of the Empire the hairstyles were more or less simple; in later times they became more and more complicated, high above a woman’s head, with many layers, hairpins, often an enormous amount of curls, and other additions.
