nothing makes me crazier than lan xichen being labeled “the softest”

he’s not soft! he’s polite! it’s different!!!!!!

not polite as in following the rules of etiquette, which is a separate thing. not that lxc doesn’t have excellent manners, but i don’t think anyone is misinterpreting that as soft. jgy follows all the rules of etiquette and he is absolutely not polite the way lxc is. a person can have perfect comportment and still make themselves into a giant pain in the ass.

polite means that when you are around things go smoothly. you don’t make a fuss, you don’t put your feelings above the needs of people around you, and you keep a lid on your own issues. the only time lan xichen is going to admit he’s having a problem is if he’d like you to help him solve it.

lan xichen works very hard to not be difficult. 

people who are polite like lxc is aren’t just intrinsically soft and sweet down to their cores; lan xichen is making an effort! to be the way that he is around other people takes self-control and means you have to pay attention to everybody else! it also requires some mild skill at manipulating people – hm i wonder why i’m xiyao trash probably it’s this lmao

lan xichen is gentle, restrained, deliberative, tactful, empathetic, and also super good at killing people with his sword!!! he’s pretty good at sending his little brother out to kill stuff for him. he definitely watched with a calm face while his teenaged brother got hit with a stick for a lot of times.
