Padmavaat is so gorgeous. I want to watch it, but it’s an Islamaphobic Hindutva nightmare that glorifies widow burning. Sanjay Leela Bhansali is one of the best filmmakers in Bollywood but he lost every bit of my respect by it. So did Deepika, Shahid and Ranveer. How did they go from Bajirao Mastanitothis?
The amount of Bollywood stars cheerfully bandwagoning the slew of hypernationalistic “historical biopics” that’s been profligating the industry the last few years is also disheartening as hell. How do they not draw any correlation between them and the mounting Hindutva violence against Muslims and other marginalized people? Are they that stupid or don’t they care?
