a pick me up

serim’s mad that even though soobin just compared himself to a flower, it brought a smile to his face. however, like true serim fashion, he quickly turned his face so his friend wouldn’t get the satisfaction of making him laugh. instead, he just whacks soobin’s shoulder once more. “ugh, you’re so dumb, i hate you!” despite the harsh words, it’s said without malicious intent.

“okay, good! your treat then~ training so hardleaves me hungry like all the time. i’m a growing boy after all.” yet even as he says this, soobin’s arm is around his shoulders with a significant height difference. ignore him if serim denies that he’s stopped growing. let a boy dream.

as they’re walking, soobin suddenly takes his arm away which leaves serim giving his friend a raised brow. “something important? yikes, you’re scaring me, soob. we’re usually never that serious with each other.”

he waits with bated breath before he gets to exhale it in a huge sigh of relief when soobin tells him that he has a girlfriend now. wait, serim pauses, “so you mean you’re not in love with me after all these years?!” he’s feigning a shocked expression before grinning. he prods a finger against soobin’s forehead and laughs, scoffing in the process. “i’m kinda shocked you got a girlfriend before me… but i’m happy for you. seriously. and an older girl at that? look at you go, choi soobin!”

soobin is by no means a sentimental boy. if anything, he thinks he’s kind of the opposite of that. he isn’t the type to remember key dates, or get emotional about things, but he isn’t going to deny the fact that serim is perhaps the closest friend he’s got. their personalities are hardly similar, but it’s probably one of the things that make them work so well. which is why he’d found it important that serim be the first to know about his change in relationship status.

“i’m afraid to tell you i’m not,” he replies, laughing slightly. “maybe i was for like two minutes, but then you opened your mouth and i fell out of it quick,” he jokes. and this time, he’s the one to put an arm over serim’s shoulder.

he smiles, and takes note of their significant height difference. “honestly, me too. i never thought i’d actually like someone before you did,” he says, though this really does come to him as a shock. “but thanks. i thought it was one-sided but… i guess it isn’t,” soobin’s never been too good at describing things, much less feelings,so he says what he can, how he can. “i really want you guys to meet. actually, i think you guys probably could meet, since she’s a trainee like you,” he nudges his friend.

and then he turns silent for a moment, engrossed in his own thoughts. “hey… should i…” it’s silly, and soobin knows he’s only probably saying this because he’s getting lonely without serim around. “should i try and become a trainee too?” he asks. “like… not because i’m lonely without you or anything dumb like that of course,” a lie. “but because i think i’ve got the face for it,” at that he turns to serim, attempting to smile, with his dimples showing by the side of his cheek.

there were a lot of things that serim wouldn’t admit out loud. one of them being the fact that he really fricken misses his best friend, soobin. they were like two peas in a dumb pod but now they’ve been separated for the time being. just seeing one another in school wasn’t enough because majority of the time, serim would find some random place in school to take a nap and never had enough energy to talk to his friend as much.

he was busy on a quick break from dance practice and he’d been checking his phone for any missed messages from his family. of course, the surprise text from soobin made him grin. so much so that one of the older trainees looked over his shoulder to see the text and commented something about having a special somebody. serim didn’t even try to deny it at this point. he didn’t care.

by the time training ends, serim’s exhausted and feels like a limp noodle. he packs up his things and remembers that soobin was supposed to come pick him up and yes, he’d deny the pep in his step when he remembered. finally making it out, serim spots soobin against the company building looking like somebody waiting for their signifcant other to get off work, it’s kinda funny. he’s spotted before he can say anything but jogs over to meet him. “yah, choi soobin!” serim whacks his friend’s arm. “you come to pick me up and yet you didn’t even bring me food or milk tea? you’re hurting me, soo. after everything we’ve been through.” mayhaps, serim had a flair for the dramatics.

it really is no secret just how close serim and soobin are. the both of them had practically spent every moment possible together; so it’s honestly odd that soobin doesn’t have serim by his side 24/7 anymore. he’d hate to admit it, but even his chips are starting to feel lonely –– he had a habit of buying for two. the smile on his face widens when he sees serim, and he’s sure that they’ve caught the attention of passers-by. they probably look like they walked straight out of a hallmark movie trailer.

“i brought you something even better. a flower,” he says, before he places a hand on his cheek and smiles. “me,” of course his sense of humour remains despite him missing his best friend. he expects another smack on his arm, but he’s already laughing. “i’ll get you something to eat. i saw some chicken place still open nearby,” he says, wrapping an arm around serim’s shoulder. “the least i can do for a future superstar. treat you before i use you for clout,” he jokes, leading his friend to the place he’d spotted.

he removes his arm from serim’s shoulder before he decides that he might as well tell his best friend now than later. “hey, i’ve got something important to tell you. it uh, happened a few days ago, and i kinda wanted to tell you face to face,” he bites on his lower lip and tries to find the right words. but soobin’s never been good with words so fuck it. “i uh… kinda got a girlfriend. she was our senior from highschool.”

@rkserim

as much as soobin enjoyed being alone most of the time, simply lounging around at home or recording tik toks, he’s been undeniably lonely with serim’s new schedule. it’s no secret that the both of them are best friends; wherever you’d find soobin, you’d find serim and vice versa. but with serim’s new trainee gig, it wasn’t exactly something that continued to hold true. usually it’d take a quick text from either one of them to meet up, so this distance was certainly new.

though soobin wasn’t about to let rigid schedules get in the way of both of them. he’d sent serim a message earlier in the day telling him that he’d come over to the building to pick him up ( the words “imy ugly im gonna come over and pick u up <3” were used ). it’s not as though they’ve stopped hanging out together completely, they still saw each other in school and soobin still constantly texted his best friends, but it felt different. and there was something important that he needed to let serim know ( see: soobin’s new relationship status ).

he’s standing outside the building hands in his pocket as he waits for serim. he wonders if he looks like some fan waiting for a random girl group to walk out. but he isn’t –– he’s waiting for a random male trainee to walk out, which was completely different. it’s when he spots serim does his face brighten up and he waves his friend over with a smile. “park serim!” he calls out.
