Happy Valentine’s day @boedkerillustrations ! I hope you enjoy your angsty piece about Arthur, it was fun to write!
Arthur leaned up against a brick wall, enjoying the shade on the hot summer day at the park in Saint Denis. Droves of people swirled around him, mingling and mixing together with the same ebb and flow of a river moving leisurely around a rock. To be honest Arthur enjoyed the indirect attention. It allowed him to watch the people fret over little details of their day that seemed oh so important in the moment but tomorrow would be forgotten. The colors of their dresses. Who was coming to dinner. Where they should vacation next.
Blah, blah blah.
Talk was a worthless currency to a walking dead man. It didn’t matter. But stealing these little moments away drowned out the other words that constantly rang in his ears.

You say something crazy. Hell, you feelcrazy. “I – I need you to get back on the horse.”
Arthur’s already backing up, though where he intends to go with you on his mare, you have no clue. “I ain’t sure that’s a good idea, girl.”
Clenching your jaw hard, you try to think, drumming your fingers on your thigh in irritation. What a fucking mess. The exact thing you’ve worked so hard to avoid, unspooling like a ball of yarn thrown by a careless child. Now you’re powerless to stop it, unless – unless you can get there in time. It would be a long, hard journey, but if there’s even a chance that you can make it… Well, you’re going to try.
Now all you have to do is get Arthur to listento you. To help. Before you get any worse than you already are. You don’t know what kind of Alpha he is when put under pressure, but you have no choice but to trust that he won’t break. The alternative – well. You refuse to consider it. That is not an option. Not for you.
“Listen,” you start, hating the note of desperation that creeps into your tone, the sweat sticking to your clothes. “I’ll explain everything. Answer any – any question. But I need to get somewhere and we gotta ride hard.”
He closes his eyes, runs a hand down his face. Everything about his stance is taut, uncomfortable, like he would rather do anything than move one step closer. That in itself is fine by you, yet you’re positive you won’t make it alone. Even if you can stay upright, someone will smell you a mile off, and you’re in no position to defend yourself. Arthur’s no fool; he can see the conundrum as clearly as you can. He wouldn’t doom you to it right after he’s saved you. Would he?
“Goddamnit,” He mutters at last. “Where?”
