In this case I went through @mod-of-chaos‘ blog and found this gem. I’m a fan of Warhammer 40K lore, and mixing some ponies isn’t something I’m going to say no to. I like cute juxtaposed with grimdark reality. Flying blind with the colors, I asked the artist what they thought. It’s always a fun to hear an artist tell me the colors I chose are either near or exactly how they imagined the character.
As well as that, I’m finding more and more that I love dealing with deep reds like burgundy bordering on violet. It’s a svelte color that’s as smooth on the eyes as I imagine it would be on the hands. Like the deepest of silks.
This was before I went for texturing things. The only experimental thing was the vignetting with the red flakes around the airbrushed background.
Another drawing by @tricomator. This one being a DnD character while a side job in being an absolute cutie. I couldn’t wait to try and color her when I first saw her. This wasn’t long after doing my Roseluck coloring from Awkeer, so I brought my experience in embossed texturing and eraser shine to the table.
I tried four or five different hair colors until I decided to go with a reddish color. Absolutely no regrets. Flipping love it. I don’t often get much satisfaction from my color choices, feeling that it’s a kind of mental paint-by-numbers. but the effort to get just the right shade was very satisfying.
I might go back to this and try to add a few shadows at some point. It would look better with a little more shading, I think. For now, enjoy what’s there.
Just felt compelled to color this image from @tjpones when they first posted it. Trying to go for a messy watercolor style, and looking at this after a few months I can see a few areas that could use some improvement. I don’t have anything in particular to say about this. It was good practice to color outside the lines, as I get a bit obsessive about making everything fit to a near pixel perfection.
This is a commission from @akweer. I asked them to just do the line work and leave the coloring to me, and this is my attempt to try and replicate their coloring style. Something that seems soft, competent, and has a subtle texture in the background that just seems to bring the entire thing together. Before this, I never thought of adding eraser streaks to give a shine. I never thought a hard drop shadow could add that much, yet here we are. I’ve already added texture to several of my other coloring to great success.
I always like how angular Akweer makes their hair. And the Anatomy just gets better and I am especially impressed by their anthro. A believable body is surprisingly hard to come by in this world of over-sized everything. I find the simple, and the perfectly proportional more aesthetically pleasing.
Anyway, yeah. I haven’t stopped coloring, just lazy in posting. Thanks for sticking around.
Owned by @ask-ruby-streak and drawn by @tricomator, we have an adorable little Ruby Streak. I know little about this character nor the artist behind her, but I love the design of this one. And I will always have an affinity for a miner pone as I have a little bit of heritage along with a desire to find a deep dark cave somewhere and stay there.
Colored it a few months ago. I’ve been experimenting with textures in the background and such. Original is over HERE
