Favorite underdog at the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics: Filipino prodigy Michael Christian Martinez, who started skating in shopping malls and has now become the first figure skater from the Philippines, or indeed from Southeast Asia, to compete in the Olympics. At only 17-years-old, he obviously wasn’t in the running for a medal, but he performed admirably,hung out with Chinese Canadian world champ Patrick Chan, and lifted hearts in his home country and around the world.
