Ending the day recalling Conrad Janis (1928 - 2022) with “A Cup of Coffee, a Sandwich & You”– Also: “I’ll See You In My Dreams”.

I always think of him as that young swayne‘Johnikins’in the 1946 film, “Margie”. (“swayne”; a male admirer or suitor) He was quite the cutie & no one seems to remember this film.

Margie”was the “16 Candles” of it’s day & a post-war box-office hit, ranking in the top 15 highest-grossing films of 1946, & I suppose it may have even prompted the “Good News”remake of 1947.

Recalling the 20s in the 40s was almost as kooky as the 50s were in the 70s.

In 1985 there was a 40-year “class reunion” for the cast of “Margie” held in Hollywood. “Entertainment Tonight” covered the event & most of the principle cast were there. Whoever was covering the event thrust a microphone at Conrad Janis & asked: “Conrad; were you ever THATyoung–?”Mr. Janis replied: “Whaddya mean; I’m still that young…” he removed his porkpie hat to reveal his bald head & laughed.

As the 1946 film featured the music of Rudy Vallée in the soundtrack, the then 84-year-old Rudy Vallée & his wife Eleanor also attended the event! “She was too young to remember the twenties” Vallée boasted while munching down some hors d'oeuvres with a chuckle….
