One of the biggest tragedies of batman in my opinion is that his efforts to better gotham are, and will always be meaningless, gotham will never stop being the most violent city in the world, it’s crime rate will never go down,and it’s children will not stop being killed, no matter how many times he has successfully rehabilitated his enemies, it will all be for naught,because ultimately, as a reader, we know that there is no batman without gotham’s corruption, DC would never drop their most famous character, they will never let his story have a satisfying ending, what is the fun in a happy gotham? A happy gotham will not sell comics, they have nothing to gain from letting batman achieve his goal.
So it continues, year after year, issue after issue, continuity after continuity, for the better part of 50 years, batman has been fighting for someone he will never achieve, and he will never know because he isn’t aware of his role.
Is it to much to ask to be able to finally see the fruits of his labor, the reason why he suffers, why he goes out night after night. There is no fulfillment in a story where our hero gives sweat, blood, and tears, only for his efforts to never work, never a moment of happiness, who would want to read a story were they knew that whatever the hero does it will change nothing, their actions meaning nothing in the grand scheme of things.

Look man, they won’t even let the poor guy get married because DC thinks a happy Bruce Wayne can’t be Batman anymore. I’m afraid Gotham improving is out of the question for them
