Re-sawing 400 year old southern yellow pine at the band saw using a power feeder

These are called laminations, they will be used to create the bent laminated flexible back supports used in the rocking chairs we are building.

Day 2 sucked! We finished up the day with our back supports being vacuum bagged into shape.

What’s going on here?

These are the curved back supports for the rocking chairs we are building. They are created using 4 thin layers, we put glue between each layer then clamp them down to a form over night, this is called bent lamination.

This technique creates wood that is curved and very strong!

Here we are using a vacuum bag to hold them down to the form, instead of typical clamps.
