Black wolf.
In Þorsteins saga Geirnefjufóstra, þorstein has to win over the giant Sǫkkúlfr (“dark wolf”). ‘Sǫkk’ literally means “to cause to sink” or “to cause to descend”, and wolves are of course always connected to Hel (“hidden” or “concealed”), the giantess of the 'underworld’.
